This father’s day weekend Spanish-born chef Santi is dishing up robust, yet refined dishes inspired by his birthplace, cooked with beautiful fresh local South African ingredients. It is the kind of interactive dining experience that culinary dreams are made of.
On this amazing planet we call home, there are certain spaces that serve as backdrops against which wonderful stories and delicious experiences are free to unfold. Located in the heart of the Cape Winelands among the undulating foothills of the mountains that rise majestically between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, Angala is such a place.
This barefoot 5-star sanctuary with an intimate selection of 11 luxurious rooms seamlessly integrates luxury with nature – from the self-contained eco-pool, to the expansive indigenous gardens and mountain walking trails that wrap around the hotel, nestling it in an exclusive oasis of calm and tranquility.
At the heart of Angala is conscious nourishment of beautifully balanced food with dishes crafted from wholesome ingredients and locally sourced produce.
Now, the visionary proprietors of this sanctuary are inviting local gourmands and touring foodies alike with the opportunity to rediscover the bliss of immersive dining encounters by throwing open their doors to some of South Africa’s most inspiring chefs to create innovative chef’s tables.
This upcoming fathers’ day weekend chef Santi will be serving un a 7-course menu with Spanish fusion flair, paired with Springfield wines.
Chef Santi is a colourful character and talented maker who likes to play with his food. Having grown up in Cee in Spain, surrounded by fishermen and farmers, he knows what it means to seasonal and to eat well. His abuelas inducted him into the ways of making beautiful meals using basic but amazing ingredients, and then he learned some fancy tricks working for Michelin-star chefs in the UK.
ITINERARY:
14:00 – Check-in and welcome
14:15 – Take your time to settle in and soak away the stress of everyday life with Angala’s aquatic wonders such as the infrared sauna and steam room, ozonated pool and heated plunge pool. The revitalising eco pool allows you to bathe in a living ecosystem of water plants that cradle a clear, natural pool in a lush aquatic garden.
Keen hikers and relaxed wanderers can work up and appetite and take in some fresh air by exploring sections of the hiking routes along the mountain, which are directly accessible from the grounds. Or perhaps you simply want to read or relax whilst taking in the expansive vistas?
18:00 Meet your chef and their drinks partner over a welcome drink, before heading to the long table to take your seat. Here, surrounded by an intimate group of like-minded food lovers the chef’s tables will unfold as a series of delectable courses expertly paired with tailormade drinks or hand-selected wines.
Eat, drink, be merry and learn more about your chef’s food philosophy and what inspires them to make edible art. The chef’s tables are concluded on a sweet note with a delectable dessert and will leave you satiated and ready to enjoy a sumptuous night’s rest.
