Spend seven days and six nights on an immersive food tour of small-town Puglia with Chef Liezie Mulder-Färbinger of Île de Païn fame and her sister Thelma Schempers – talented designer, and traveller extraordinaire.
Stay in a luxurious private masseria, take Pugliese cooking classes, visit local artisans to taste their wares, make pasta by hand, sit down to lingering, laid-back lunches, shop for gorgeous keepsakes, go cycling on beautiful (gentle) routes, do dinner in true Italian fashion, and so much more.
In short – a week of utter indulgence in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Che Buono! Che Bello!
Have you ever dreamed of travelling to a beautiful, undiscovered destination to eat amazing local things and meet wonderful people? This is exactly what chef Liezie Mulder-Färbinger of erstwhile Île de Païn fame and her travel-guru sister Thelma Schempers are offering a small group of foodie travellers when they make their way to Puglia this coming winter.
“After the success of our Tuscan tour we wanted to treat like-minded foodies with another taste of Italy – but from a completely different perspective. Our adventures took us far south to the heel of the Italian boot, where Puglia is located.
“This region is an even more laid-back part of Italy that is still under the radar, but not for long. It’s just marvellous – think long summer days, dips in the cool blue Adriatic Sea, seafood, pasta, olives, and crisp glasses of rose at sunset,” Thelma enthuses.
“Our Pugliese adventures will include walking through olive groves with 1000-year-old trees, cooking and tasting traditional Pugliese food and wine, making pasta by hand, exploring old towns, and fishing villages, soaking up the sun, with a few surprises thrown in the mix as always,” says Liezie.
Best of all – you’ll get to stay in a beautiful expansive Masseria (farmhouse) with barrel-vaulted ceilings and white-washed stone walls. This luxurious abode is tucked away among olive groves and boasts inspiring views of the turquoise ocean, a stone’s throw away from the whitewashed city of Ostuni.
“The Masseria has eight generous bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, expansive indoor living spaces, as well as outdoor entertainment areas, a swimming pool, herb garden, pizza oven and sunset views to make your heart stop. From here we will explore and experience Puglia and all its beauty,” says Liezie.
You can now book to join the passionate pair for a delicious week of wandering through charming villages in Puglia meet friendly locals and experience Italian culture and history through the lens of gorgeous Pugliese food.
Spend your days meandering through the arid, yet inspiring countryside that has a Karoo-by-the-sea feel, visit local artisans and learn how to make amazing food from scratch using locally sourced ingredients.
Cook together, kick back and tuck into long, leisurely lunches and convivial dinners, and indulge in some shopping to round it all off. Afternoons are for resting and lounging around the pool at the Masseria, or exploring on your own.
So come along – let Thelma & Leez take you on a culinary adventure of a lifetime in authentic and genuine Puglia.
Please note that this itinerary is only a guideline and may change due to weather or service providers’ availability.
Day One
Welcome to Puglia! Your adventure starts as soon as you set foot in the sun-kissed heel of Italy’s boot. Thelma & Leez will pick you up from the airport and whisk you off to the luxury farmhouse where you can unpack and settle in for the week.
In the evening your group will get to know each other over an Aperol spritz or two as you watch the sunset over the Adriatic ocean. You will enjoy a welcome dinner under the stars, including delicious pizzas made from local ingredients, and baked in the villa’s wood-fired oven.
This will be the perfect opportunity to toast your first night in Puglia!
Day Two
Your gorgeous food escape continues after breakfast as you venture out into the beautiful countryside for a pasta-making class with a local nonna while sipping on some crisp white wine from the Valle d’Itria region of Puglia.
In the afternoon you can put up your feet and relax by the pool.
This evening your group takes a stroll through one of the most authentic towns in the region and stops over for a wine tasting with one of the area’s most innovative winemakers.
A farm-style tasting menu and wine pairing is the highlight of the evening.
Day Three
After breakfast everyone hops on their bikes to go for a ride amongst the age-old olive trees. You will stop on the way to admire the breath-taking scenery, do some olive oil tasting, and tuck into a light lunch.
Just around the last curve you’ll say goodbye to your bikes and guide, and settle down for a laid-back lunch at a local Trattoria.
This afternoon you are free to explore or enjoy the comforts of the villa as everyone settle in for a relaxed evening that will, once again, feature a dinner showcasing amazing local ingredients and produce.
Day Four
After yoga (optional bliss) you head to a local farm to make and taste mozzarella. Shopping bags and recipes in hand, the group visits a local market and gathers all the ingredients we need for dinner. The afternoon will be spent preparing for an interactive cooking experience with a glass of wine and Chef Liezie! You will cook up a storm and enjoy a real Puglia-style dinner together.
Day Five
Let your mind wander off to the middle ages, breathe in and smell the salty air of the Adriatic ocean. Imagine being a pilgrim on the Via Francigena as you walk along the coastal path through olive groves, fields, and undiscovered coastal villages.
Your group ends its slow and relaxing pilgrimage at a local restaurant in a small town square, where you enjoy an ice-cold sip of prosecco and a family-style seafood lunch.
But the day isn’t over yet… This afternoon you can rest up and then get dressed up for a night out in one of the most beautiful towns, known for its white-washed town center, and beautiful cathedral. In fact, there will be time for a little shopping before you settle down to enjoy a contemporary Puglia tasting menu that will tantalise your taste buds!
Day 6
Today you’ll head north to a fishing village and picturesque coastal town for a taste of the freshest seafood served Puglia style.
After lunch, you can dip your toes in the turquoise blue water and soak up some sun, or do a bit of last-minute shopping. This afternoon you will have plenty of time to rest and digest before heading out on your last night together… another surprise awaits!
Day 7
One last splurge for breakfast to celebrate and share a few more laughs and stories.
This morning you will be transported back to Brindisi airport, train station or your hotel (approximately 35min drive) to be sent off with extraordinary experiences and memories that will last forever!
“An unforgettable experience that totally exceeded our expectations, with lots of innovative excursions, experiences, surprises and amazing attention to detail – all executed in a professional though relaxed manner”
