Spend seven days and six nights on a food tour of small-town Tuscany with Chef Liezie Mulder-Färbinger of Île de Païn and her sister Thelma Schempers, talented designer and traveller extraordinaire. Stay in a gorgeous private villa, take Tuscan cooking classes, visit local artisans, walk part of the Via Francigena, sit down to lazy picnics and laid-back lunches and dine at a Michelin-star restaurant to top it all off. In short – a week of utter indulgence in one of the most beautiful places in the world. È delizioso!
Travelling to a beautiful place to experience local food culture and meet inspiring people – what could be better? This is exactly what chef Liezie Mulder-Färbinger from Île de Païn and her travel-guru sister Thelma Schempers are offering a small group of foodie travellers when they join them on a delicious adventure in Tuscany.
“Tuscany is one of those places that everyone dreams of,” says Thelma. “It is steeped in history with a unique and special culinary culture, boundless natural beauty, exceptional food and wine, and spellbinding architecture. I discovered the region when I walked the Via Francigena in May last year and fell in love with the laidback atmosphere, long summer lunches and wonderful people. I couldn’t wait to come back.”
This and many similar travel experiences have inspired Thelma and talented chef sister Liezie to start sharing their love of food and travel with a small troupe of food enthusiasts, one trip at a time. If you join their Tuscan food adventure you will be staying in a private villa whilst exploring the beautiful countryside and meeting up with some of the region’s most exciting food growers and artisanal producers.
“Thelma and I have travelled together before and share a love for food, exploration, art and all things beautiful. We have combined our talents to create a unique food travel experience that will lift people’s spirits and allow them to encounter a side of Tuscany that would be difficult to discover by themselves. The trip combines luxury and authenticity for a truly memorable experience,” says chef Liezie.
You can now book to join the passionate pair for seven full days wandering through the romantic old towns of Tuscany, meet friendly locals and experience Italian culture and history through the lens of real, honest-to-goodness Tuscan food. Spend your days discovering the unexplored countryside visiting local artisans, farmers, cheesemakers and butchers. Cook together, walk part of the Via Francigena, kick back and tuck into long, leisurely lunches and convivial picnics, and visit a local Michelin-star restaurant to top it all off. Afternoons are for resting and relaxing around the pool at the villa among olive groves and lavender hedges, or exploring on your own.
Come along – eat, laugh and discover Tuscany at its most deliciously authentic. It will be the journey of a lifetime!

TOUR SCHEDULE:
Day One
Welcome to Tuscany! Our adventure starts in Tuscany’s capital, Florence, home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture. We will meet at a local favourite spot before we hit the streets to get a taste of, and fall in love with Florence. In the afternoon we will whisk you off to our beautiful villa where you can unpack and settle in for the week. In the evening we’ll get to know each other over an Aperol spritz (or two) and our in house Pizzaiola, Cristian will serve up delicious pizzas made from local ingredients and produce harvested from the garden, baked in the villa’s wood fired oven. This will be the perfect opportunity to toast your first night in Tuscany!
Day Two
The food escapades continue after breakfast as we venture out to a beautiful medieval town for a cooking class with the fabulous Guiseppina while Luca leads us through a tasting of their family wines. In the afternoon you can put up your feet and relax by the pool. This evening we take a stroll through a historical Italian style garden, before we head into the wine cellar to taste biodynamic wines with one of the area’s most innovative winemakers. A farm style tasting menu and wine pairing is the highlight of the evening.
Day Three
After breakfast we hop on our bikes and head north into the rollings hills of Tuscany toward San Miniato. We will stop on the way to admire the breathtaking scenery and sip some organic wine. Just beyond the last rolling hill we say goodbye to our bikes and guide Marco and settle down for a laid back lunch and wine tasting at a local organic winery. You can kick off your shoes and enjoy a hearty meal and a few glasses of wine. This afternoon you are free to explore or enjoy the comforts of the villa as we settle in for a relaxed evening. We will tantalise your tastebuds as we give you a taste of another area in Italy, Puglia.
Day Four
After yoga (optional bliss) we take a walk past Pinocchio’s movie set to a former ghost town, which has been restored to its former glory. We browse the unique art gallery and pop into a few boutique shops before we hitch a ride back to home base for a champagne brunch. Grab your shopping bags and recipes, and get ready to shop at the local CO-OP and gather all the ingredients we need for dinner. The afternoon will be spent preparing for our interactive cooking with a glass of wine and Chef Liezie! We will cook up a storm and enjoy a real Tuscan style dinner together.
Day Five
Let your mind wander off to the middle ages, breathe in and smell the countryside of Tuscany and imagine being a Pilgrim on the Via Francigena as we walk through vineyards, fields and small forgotten villages. We end our pilgrimage at a local restaurant in a small town square, where we enjoy an ice cold sip of prosecco and a family style lunch. Wait the day isn’t over yet… This afternoon you can rest your weary legs before we dress up for a night out in one of the best preserved medieval towns, SanGimignano. There will be time for some shopping before we enjoy a contemporary Tuscan tasting menu that will blow your mind!
Day 6
Today we head south to a traditional farmhouse to experience simple, friendly and sincere hospitality and the breathtaking scenery of the Tuscan hills. We will explore, taste olive oil and wine while indulging in the fresh produce on offer during a long, lazy lunch. Gelato anyone? This afternoon we will give you plenty of time to rest and digest before we go big on our last night together… another surprise awaits!
Day 7
One last splurge for breakfast to celebrate and share a few more laughs and stories. This morning we will transport you back to Florence airport, train station or your hotel (approximately 1 hour’s drive) and send you home with extraordinary experiences and memories that will last forever!
