Indigenous Fynbos Wine-Pairing

A stylish wine farm stay where you could easily just keep to yourself, admiring the view and exploring the fynbos-thicketed mountain trails around you, or pop over to the resident tasting room to kick off one of the most epic of wine-tasting weekends ever. If that’s not the best of both worlds, we don’t know what is.

Why Foodies Love to Stay Here

  • Unique interactive wine-tasting experience pairing Cape fynbos and wine included in the stay price!
  • Set in the heart of the Stellenbosch wine route, making it the ideal stay to eatsplore the Cape Winelands.
  • On special request, Bartinney will fill your fridge with delectable locally sourced deli goodies and wine.
  • The folks at Bartinney will help you with any restaurant reservations, guides to good spots close by or even a wine tour if needed.

Overview

A tranquil mountain retreat within a stone’s throw of the best and buzziest Stellenbosch and Franschhoek wine estates and restaurants. Set on the slopes of the Botmaskop mountain, just 15 minutes from Stellenbosch and 30 minutes from Franschhoek, Bartinney is a working farm that not only crafts beautiful boutique wines, but also champions its local biodiversity with a host of eco-friendly initiatives.

Plus, it turns out, they’re the perfect hosts, with four private self-catering vineyard cottages to choose from – each with its own special touches; all offering the perfect balance between contemporary comfort and farmhouse charm. And, the hospitality doesn’t end there. During your stay, you’ll be treated to a unique wine and fynbos pairing at the estate’s Tasting Shed to better understand how the unique flavour profiles of three endemic plants found on the farm – Pelargonium Citronellum, Eriocephalus africanus and Agathosma Ovata – have influenced the taste of their Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Cab Sav.

Don’t worry, you won’t only be snacking on leaves (phew!) there’ll be some tasty African-inspired, fynbos-infused tapas to help line the stomach, too. From there on out, the winelands are your oyster. Until you decide to come snuggle down in style, of course.
